Polly Poffenroth, LGPC

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

In a non-judgmental, safe, and empathic environment, Polly provides a welcoming place to partner with you to reach your goals whether they be working through trauma, managing complicated relationships, or learning how to verbalize your feelings.  Polly believes it is a gift to be trusted with a client’s life story and believes an authentic connection through acknowledgement, reflection, and validation leads to emotional growth and development.

Polly's Approach

Polly believes that each client is the expert of their life and Polly will provide a supportive relationship to help explore and process emotions, increase self-awareness of negative or unhealthy thinking patterns, and develop effective coping skills and build strengths to his or her goals.

Polly has extensive experience working with adolescents and adults in diverse settings including acute care hospitals, schools, and community therapy centers.  Her clients have experienced a wide range of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, and substance abuse.  She uses a multi-faceted approach to therapy because each client is unique, but her focus is generally Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Center Therapy modalities.

When Polly is not with clients, she loves spending time with her family and energetic golden retriever, running, doing yoga, or reading.  Polly is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in Maryland and earned her Masters of Arts degree in Community Counseling from the George Washington University and her Masters of Science degree in Health Education and Promotion from the American University.
